BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE VIDEO CONTEST

Upload your video and WIN!

  • Monty Python's Spamalot wants to see and hear your Bright Side Of Life!
  • Create and upload a video of you, your friends or family performing the famous Monty Python song "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life".
  • The Grand prize winner will have a portion of their video featured in a Spamalot commercial that will air during the Tony Awards on CBS 5 on Sunday June 7, along with 6 tickets to see Spamalot, a meet and greet with select members of the cast, a $200 gift certificate for dinner and Spamalot show merchandise.
  • 3 other semi-finalists will win 2 tickets to see Monty Python's Spamalot.

HOW IT WORKS

Come up with a short scenario or example of when it's best to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life".

  • Learn the tune, memorize the lyrics and practice whistling! 
  • If you need help with the song, the lyrics are on the right and you can listen to a sample here
  • You can sing any portion of the song, but we do request that the performance is focused on the chorus (in bold on the right).
  • Grab your video camera and start filming.
  • Your video should be no longer than 2 minutes in length.
  • Once your video is complete, fill out the entry form below and upload your video.  
  • The video will automatically appear on the SHN Broadway in San Francisco channel on YouTube.
  • Spread the word!  Tell your friends, family and fellow knights to vote for your video.
  • Contest ends on May 31st.
  • The winner will be chosen week of June 1.  Watch the Tony Awards on CBS 5 on June 7th to see a portion of the winning video.

HOW YOU WIN

  • 4 finalists will be selected based on the YouTube rating system, as well as input from an expert panel of judges. Videos will be judged based on overall content, creativity, originality, humor and ability to capture the Python Spirit and convey why it's best to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life".
  • Expert panel of judges will be solely responsible for choosing the grand prize winner.

WHAT YOU WIN

GRAND PRIZE WINNER

  • A portion of the winning video will be incorporated into a :15 second Spamalot television commercial that will air during the Tony Awards on CBS 5 Sunday, June 7 at 8pm and winner will receive a copy of the final TV commercial.
  • Grand Prize winner receives 6 tickets to the Tuesday, June 16 8pm performance of Spamalot, a post show meet and greet with select members of the cast, a $200 gift certificate for dinner at Colibri and Spamalot show merchandise.

FINALISTS

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Contest Rules for Entry: Monty Python's "Bright Side of Life" video contest.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY


Sponsor: the producers of Monty Python's Spamalot and SHN, 1182 Market Street, San Francisco, CA 94102
 

Agreement to Official Rules:
  Participation in this Contest constitutes entrant's full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and Sponsor's and Administrator's decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to this Contest.   Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

Entry Period:
  May 13, 2009 to May 31, 2009.   All entries must be received by 11:59pm (Pacific Daylight Time) on May 31.  

How to Enter:
  Visit the website located at http://www.shnsf.com/spamalotcontest and follow the instructions to create a "Bright Side of Life" video and profile.   Limit one entry per person.  We want to see original and creative videos that capture the Python spirit and convey why it's always best to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."  By uploading your Submission, you agree that your Submission confirms to the Submission Guidelines and Content Restrictions as defined below (collectively, the "Guidelines and Restrictions") and that Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may remove your Submission and disqualify you from the Contest if it believes, in its sole discretion, that your Submission fails to conform to the Guidelines and Restrictions.


Submission Guidelines:

  • The Submission must not exceed two (2) minutes in length;
  • Contest is open to any U.S. Resident 18 years of age and older, residing in Northern California who are able to utilize the prize awarded in this particular contest;
  • The Submission must be in Flash Video FLV, Mobile 3GPP, Mobile 3GPP2, MPEG MPG, MPEG 4 MP4, QuickTime MOV, Windows ASF, Windows AVI, Windows WMV format;
  • The Submission must comply with the YouTube standards http://www.youtube.com/t/terms; and
  • The Submission must not have been submitted previously in a promotion of any kind or exhibited or displayed publicly through any means.

Content Restrictions:

  • The Submission must not disparage Sponsor, Administrator or any other person or party affiliated with the promotion and administration of this Contest;
  • The Submission must not contain footage not created by entrant;
  • The Submission must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene hateful, tortuous, defamatory, slanderous or libelous;
  • The Submission must not contain material that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; and
  • The Submission must not contain material that is unlawful, in violation of or contrary to the laws or regulations in any jurisdiction where Submission is created.
For All Submissions: Limit: You may submit one (1) Submission. Submissions received from any person or email address in excess of the stated limit will be void. Entrant must have permission from all individuals that appear in the Submission (if any) to use their name and likeness in the Submission and to grant the rights set forth herein. Uploading a Submission constitutes entrant's consent to give Sponsor a royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, create derivative works from, and display such submissions in whole or in part, on a worldwide basis, and to incorporate it into other works, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, including for promotional or marketing purposes. If necessary, entrant will sign any necessary documentation that may be required for Sponsor or its designees to make use of the non-exclusive rights entrant is granting to use the Submission.


VOTING / WINNING VIDEO:

Winners will be selected as follows from the online voting system:  The top 4 highest rated video entrants as selected by judges and through YouTube rating system will become finalists.  Any attempt by any voter to submit fraudulent votes via any method will void that voter's submission and votes and he/she will be disqualified from further participation in the Contest.   In case more than 4 videos receive equal highest ratings, the 4 videos will be chosen in a random drawing.  A party of qualified judges, selected by SHN will determine the grand prize video winner based on overall content, creativity, origniality, humor and ability to capture the Python Spirit and convey why it's best to "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life".

PRIZES:
Grand prize winner will be noticed via email & phone and will have 48 hours after notified to respond or forfeit the prize.  If a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, the prize may be awarded to a runner-up, if any, in Sponsor's sole discretion.

Acceptance of any prize shall constitute and signify winner's agreement and consent that Sponsor and its designees may use the winner's name, city, state, likeness, photo, Submission and/or prize information in connection with the Contest for promotional, advertising or other purposes, worldwide, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, including the Internet, without limitation and without further payment, notification, permission or other consideration, except where prohibited by law. Without limiting the generality of these Official Rules, winner shall irrevocably grant, transfer, convey and assign to Sponsor the entirety of the rights in and to the Submission and the rights to use the Submission for any and all purposes in any and all media whether now known or hereafter developed, on a worldwide basis, in perpetuity. Winner accepts and acknowledges that Sponsor shall not be obligated to use the Submission and that Sponsor in its sole discretion shall have the right to refrain from using the Submission. Sponsor shall not incur any liability whatsoever to the extent Sponsor chooses to refrain from any exploitation of its rights hereunder. Winner will indemnify Sponsor, KFOG, Cumulus Media Partners, CBS 5, CBS Broadcasting Corporation and any licensee of Sponsor against all claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable counsel fees and legal expenses) arising out of any breach of these terms.

(1) Grand Prize Winner shall receive: 6 tickets to Monty Python's Spamalot Tuesday, June 16th 2009 at 8pm, followed by a meet and greet with select members of the cast and merchandise from the show and a $200 gift certificate to Colibri.  Inclusion of a portion of the winning video will be aired during a commercial break of the Tony Award's airing on KPIX / Channel 5 on Sunday June 7, 2009.
Approximate value: (6) theatre tickets to see Monty Python's Spamalot at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco (approximate retail value $70 x 6 = $420), merchandise from the show (approximate retail value $75) and $200 gift certificate.

(3) Semi-Finalists will receive: (1) pair of tickets to Monty Python's Spamalot on Tuesday, June 16th 2009 at 8pm.
Approximate value: (2) theatre tickets to see Monty Python's Spamalot at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco (approximate retail value $70 x 2 = $140).

Redemption: Tickets must be redeemed on Tuesday, June 16th at 8pm.  Tickets, dinner certificates and merchandise may not be redeemed for cash, are non-transferable and cannot be replaced if lost or stolen.  All other expenses relating to the Prize package, including any federal or state taxes are the sole responsibility of each winner.

Release:
By participating, entrant agrees to release and hold harmless the Sponsor, YouTube, KFOG, Cumulus Media Partners, CBS 5, CBS Broadcasting Corporation, Administrator and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, advertising/promotion agencies, and prize suppliers, and each of their respective parent companies and each such company's officers, directors, employees and agents (collectively, the "Released Parties") from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize.

General Conditions: Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, suspend and/or modify the Contest, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures or any other factor impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Contest, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. If terminated, Sponsor may, in its sole discretion, determine the winners from among all non-suspect, eligible Submissions received up to time of such action using the judging procedure outlined above. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the Submission process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or any other promotion or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner and void all associated Submissions.

Limitations of Liability:
Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrant, printing, typographical or other errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the Submission process or the Contest; (4) printing, typographical, technical, computer, network or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest, the uploading, the processing or judging of Submissions or votes or the tabulating of votes, the announcement of the prizes or in any Contest-related materials; (5) late, lost, undeliverable, damaged or stolen mail; (6) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant's participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize; or (7) failure for scheduled Spamalot TV commercial containing winning video to air during Tony Awards. Released Parties are not responsible for misdirected or undeliverable Submissions or for any technical problems, malfunctions of computer systems, servers, providers, hardware/software, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmission or any combination thereof. Released Parties are not responsible for any unauthorized third party use of any Submission.

SHN and all sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest.  The decisions of SHN management regarding prize awards and interpretation of these rules shall be final.
